April Is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Turn the Lights Teal is a month-long initiative of the Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Center to promote awareness and community support for survivors of sexual violence. Our goal is to turn our local businesses and community teal in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
In Maine, 1 in 5 people will experience sexual violence in their lifetime! What if 1 in 5 houses were broken into or 1 in 5 children were abducted? Would you be outraged? We are asking you to turn your outrage into action.
With our Turn the Lights Teal Campaign, we hope to provide visual reminders that sexual violence does occur and one in five of us will experience this horrific crime in our lifetime. We are asking you, our community partners, to change one light in your home or office to teal and keep it glowing every day in April as a symbol of support.
For every $10 donation, we will provide you with one teal light bulb to use in your home, office, and/or outdoor light post. For every $20 donation, we will provide you with a string of indoor/outdoor teal mini lights which can be used to wrap around a lamp post, tree, etc.
Please join us in leading the way to help our community become Silent No More against sexual violence!
