Who We Are

The mission of Bridging the Gap is to support people in becoming the healthiest version of themselves by connecting them to basic needs and community resources and by providing opportunities for meaningful volunteerism and social connection.

Bridging the Gap envisions a community in which everyone is given the opportunity to thrive and live with dignity.

What We Do

Bridging the Gap (BTG) is a non-profit program of Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church. It is a low-barrier resource center with 5 components:

Addie’s Attic is a free clothing bank that began in 1998. Gently used donated clothes and linens are sorted and arranged so that visitors can “shop”. A clean pair of shoes and socks or a professional work outfit can go a long way in making a difference.

Everyday Basic Essentials is a personal and household hygiene pantry which began in 2009. It provides items important to health which are not included  under the SNAP program such as toilet paper, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, tampons, and diapers.

Community Resource Connection is a key aspect of Bridging the Gap.  A dedicated staff member   supports individuals in connecting the dots toward a more stable situation by listening, suggesting area resources and helping with next steps.

Meaningful volunteerism is a cornerstone of Bridging the Gap. Individuals may choose to join the Building Bridges Volunteer Program which not only builds skills and job readiness but also boosts self-esteem. Participants set goals and work with a staff person to achieve them. Community volunteers (those who are not part of the Building Bridges Program) are also a huge part of Bridging the Gap's success.
