Literacy Volunteer Tutor Orientation and Training

Orientation: Learn about literacy tutoring, the program of Literacy Volunteers of Greater Augusta (LVA), the learners you might be able to help, skills needed (you do not need teaching experience) and time commitments. This session gives you the opportunity to see if literacy tutoring is a good fit for you – if so, you can join the following Tutor Training. Tutor Training: Learn techniques and strategies for tutoring adult learners in basic reading, writing, and comprehension, learn methods to engage reluctant readers, and understand various philosophy and approaches to adult learning. Learn how to support and engage new English learners in culturally respectful ways. Help learners expand their understanding and use of digital literacy, financial literacy and health literacy. Learn how we use a learner-centered approach that is driven by each individual’s goals.
